The website (http://devopsbootcamp.osuosl.org) has drifted a bit as it has changed and updated over the past few years. I think a much needed reorganization is in order to focus the website on our content and in general give it some tender love and care.

This reorganization would involve the following:

  • Structuring all of our on-line content into Modules or Lessons which are:
    a. Accessible from the front page (one to two clicks to get to a lesson).
    b. Easy to jump into and follow (Start at lesson 0, Next leads to lesson 1, then to lesson 2 etc).
    c. Cohesive as a body of content (The website doesn't change halfway through, each lesson has the same predictable / dependable structure / design as the others).
  • Moving from dumping slides toward linking to flat HTML pages.
  • Adding some sort of Analytics, and being transparent about this on the website. We have talked time and time again about getting more data about our website and how people use it, let's actually do that.
  • Adding some sort of Post Lesson/Module Survey and/or Post Course Survey to get feedback from students.

We have also talked internally at the OSL about making this an official project which gets sanctioned development time by our student employees. In the process of this, making the website easier to update would be beneficial; at least documenting how to update the website would be something to keep in mind.

I will try to mock up some examples of what this will look like in practice and post those mock ups in this issue. If I don't get around to that I will have a public branch where people can follow along to see what this might look like in practice.

- Organized all content to focus on lessons.
  - In the side-bar you can now see Lessons in order.
  - Clicking the 'next' button goes to the next lesson.
- Re-writing all content.
  - Re-writing content with a focus on HTML pages over of slides.
- De-constructed lessons to be smaller.
  - This is so we can pick, choose, and move lessons around more easily.

TODO:
- Finish re-writing new lessons.
- Format content to work on both slides and html pages.

  - Most lessons need a bit more polish / have room for improvement.
- Removed unecessary images.
- Added 'Running DOBC' doc with advice and guidelines for running a DOBC.
