Unable to open the ubuntu terminal in Virtualbox

I don't seem to be able to open the ubuntu(16.04) terminal on virtualbox. I tried playing around with the settings a little, to see if it would make a difference, but it doesn't work. I only see a blank command prompt, which doesn't even let me write any code. What can the possible issue be and how can it be resolved?
