we shortly discussed this in Hoodie Chat and agreed it would be a good idea, so let’s do this :)

We would love to ask first time Hoodie contributors a few questions. A common situation for that would be if a starter issue like this gets merged: hoodiehq/hoodie-account-server#98

I suggest a few questions here and am looking forward to your input, in terms of what questions to leave out, to add, change of order, etc :)

  1. How can we call you?
  2. What pronouns do you use?
  3. Could you tell as a little bit about you?
  4. Was your contribution to Hoodie your first contribution to Open Source?
  5. How did you find out about Hoodie
  6. What is your motivation to contribute to Hoodie?
  7. Would you like to continue contributing to Hoodie?
  8. Is there anything we could have done better to help you with your first contribution to Hoodie?
  9. Are you on Twitter? If yes, what is your Twitter handle?
  10. Would it be okay for us to invite you to Hoodie’s contributors team on GitHub?
  11. Would it be okay for us to tweet about your contribution?

Perhaps just a note on what will be public/private information?
If someone didn't have a stellar experience they might want it going just to particular people.
Right now it feels sort of in the same place with "Twitter handle" and we might want to create a separation, just in presenting the info and knowing where it's going to :)

I updated question two to read 'what pronouns do you use?" as this is the most common way of asking. Removed the examples too as there are 100s of pronoun combinations :)

How would we track this and know when to send the questionnaire? I'm curious about managing this effort although I acknowledge I might be getting ahead of myself.

I would probably create a google form for it, and then post the link when thanking someone for their first pull request, but we can also send people a direct link if they contributed something else, as we see fit.

I’m also wondering if we could simplify the form, reduce the questions and also explain who has access to the answers. Personally, I'm very interested in why they contribute, and why they decided to contribute to Hoodie in particular.

In the past I also did quick 5-10 min calls with new contributors which was very nice received, and also very nice for me to do, and if we do such follow ups, we can also fill in some information ourselves to make the initial form simpler.
