I recently came across a visualisation tool that renders JSON files as a collapsible interactive tree that might be interesting as a JSON renderer (I note there is already an experimental VSCode extension for it).

Thanks @psychemedia for the suggestion.

This would make a great third-party lab extension, which would also be compatible with Notebook 7.

Ideally jsoncrack should be distributed first to npm as it would make it much easier to use it in a JupyterLab extension. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case at the moment according to AykutSarac/jsoncrack.com#171 and AykutSarac/jsoncrack.com#151.
