Hey @simonv3, I'm really interested in making icons, so if you'd like a custom icon for each thing of these I'd be glad to start sketching some and brainstorming with you or more people? I'm all for pretty SVGs :)

That'd be awesome! Definitely start doing some sketching. I've done a brainstorm for some of these way back and because most of the ideas are pretty abstract they were pretty weak. I can try digging up if I can find those sketches.

@simonv3 Great! I will sketch on paper first and then we can compare sketches if you dig up them. :)

Hey @simonv3 like you said some of these are sort of hard to come up with imagery for but here are some sketches. Would love to see what you've done so far too :)

I'm fairly sure I have no idea where my sketches are, and at first I thought I would come up with some as well again, but then I went through yours while writing down the sections of each area, and these are pretty good! I'm fairly sure I can't top most of these. I think what I originally had was really similar to what you have here except for the places that yours are better :P. Might still try as an exercise though.

Some ideas:

Keep it alive: how about an RSS feed icon instead? I feel like that's fairly well understood as an "update" item. Or what about a little notification bell (github and twitter do this). I think I personally had the little heartbeat monitor.

Mentored tasks: I like the helping block idea.

ContributingMD: I like the circle of hands, but that might just be the kumbaya feels.

Anyone else have any thoughts? I think if these get iconified they should definitely be put in the icons directory.

Tests: I like the last one

Pair programming: #3, but also don't see how this is very different from the next set?

CoC: #2 is my favorite

Bitesized tasks: the 2nd and 3rd are really cute :)

Communicating with the team: I like the first one

  • show your project is alive: I like the heartbeat; RSS is good too.
  • pair programming: hmm, agnostic so far. Additional ideas: 4 hands on a keyboard. 2 persons in front of a screen.
  • mentor: the 3rd
  • communicating with the team: both a bit complicated. I prefer the 2nd.
  • in general: Text in icons is tricky.

Thanks!

Could communicating be just little speech bubbles instead of the "user" icons as well?

Yeah speech bubbles for communicating makes more sense!

Is there a way to make a feedback wanted label for this issue?
