Chapter 2: Ropsten Test Faucet issues #1033
Comments
I dealt with the exact same problem. Finally https://app.mycrypto.com/faucet works! Thanks a lot @samwestby |
Thank you all for reporting! Yes, this needs to be updated. |
Same issue here. After requesting 1 ether throws an 500 Server Error. Would appreciate if anybody can be more explicit on how using app.mycrypto.com/faucet helped them to get through. For blockchain newbies it isn't clear what does this tool does, how to make it work and why |
I went to the site that you all are describing. yet when I went to request Ether it gave me a code at the bottom . It's not exactly like a normal transaction. But can someone clarify for me please. |
We received your complaint and I'd like to know how I can be of help if it hasn't been rectified |
I'm struggling through this part of Chapter 2 right now. It appears Ropsten is deprecated and no longer listed as a testnet. https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/140912/how-to-use-ropsten-after-eth-upgrade is suggesting to use Goerli or Sepolia network instead. And only Sepolia has the "buy" button active. And if I click "buy" it takes me to a site that had its TLS certificate expire on May 22, 2023. So as of now I am blocked unless I trust an expired TLS cert... |
I tried this just now but am getting an error:
|
Also, Goerli is deprecated as of Jan 23': https://github.com/eth-clients/goerli Official suggestion is to use Sepolia, which has the cert error. |
Here is an open issue on the Sepolia client about the expired cert, no responses since it was opened 3 weeks ago. |
I opened an issue here eth-clients/sepolia#48 |
Okay I can be of help. But firstly I’d like us to take this step by step so
we can actually get the origin of the issue here. First off, I hope your
wallet is synced with the site you’re trying to get Ropsten?

Thanks @mellyjay553, I'm actually paused on this right now as I started down the path of another tutorial on another DLT. I'm not pursuing this further right now. I'm pretty sure it was synced, through MetaMask (uninstalled already). |
Okay no worries, just keep me updated on it. And also can you put me
through on the project you’re currently working on?

I was just working on learning the book. |
Hello! The MetaMask Ropsten Test Faucet wasn't working for me and it appears to go down on occasion [source]. After searching around I found https://faucet.ropsten.be/ but that told me I was "greylisted". Finally, I got some testnet ether from https://app.mycrypto.com/faucet.
I new to all this, but I wanted to share this issue, as getting ether for the test network is one of the first hands-on activities of the book.
