It's been a long time since our last release but there have been big changes in the world of Hawkthorne. Not only is this release jam-packed with awesome new features, the devs have been working hard on new levels and a new collision detection system which due to their sheer size and complexity (i.e. affecting every single level in the entire game) will have to wait until next time.

Changes

  • Burn the blacksmith's shop! - steal any of the weapons in his shop (you'll have a few seconds to think about the consequences of your actions), watch his wife and daughter suffer as a result of your actions and burn down his shop anyway because you have no mercy
  • Updated inventory and shopping - added tooltips so you can view more information about each item
  • Introductory tutorial hints - press INTERACT when you see a floating question mark to find out how to deal with certain obstacles. You can turn off tutorial mode (currently only present in the first forest level) from the pause menu
  • Updates to vehicles - mounting and dismounting now both use the INTERACT button
  • Fix issues with inventory filling up with keys
  • Bug fixes

Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne is now officially two years old. Here's the post that started it all.

Changes

  • Hilda affection levels: You've been asking for years, here you go - max out Hilda's affection level, marry her, and make babies!
  • Vehicles: Ride a dinosaur in Castle Hawkthorne or steal a golf cart from Greendale
  • Player effects module: Adds effect text and colored flashing to take the guesswork out of using potions and consumables. Note: Potions saved from older versions of the game will no longer take effect.
  • Making sandpits easier: Adds additional save points and fixes dropping spiders.
  • Hippies can talk
  • Turkey boss updates: Boss arena is now more like the episode
  • Abed cave updates: In case you didn't get enough babies from Hilda, head to the cave under New Abedtown.
  • Arrow arcs: Arrows can now kill all enemies regardless of the character you're playing
  • New costumes: Because we wouldn't be Hawkthorne without a costume or two (or 346!)
  • Bug fixes

Hawkthornites! Here to help you through this week's Community drought is a new release of Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne.

While it looks like only a few things have changed in the game, the port to Love 0.9.0 will make mobile a future possibility. This transition has changed rather a lot of code so please make us aware of any bugs you encounter that we've missed.

Changes:

  • Transition to Love 0.9.0 (huge credits to /u/ NimbusBP1729)
  • Delete individual save slots
  • Fix various level issues
  • Addition of white crystal animation to open Castle Hawkthorne gates
  • Two new costumes (Dean's Donna Reed and St. Patrick's Day Abed)
  • Temporary Dungeon Room levels in Castle Hawkthorne
  • Numerous bug fixes

While there may not be a new episode of Community for a while due to the Olympics, fear not, there is good news on the horizon. Here is a new version of Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne and this update has some awesome changes & new features.

As usual, please report any bugs/issues/suggestions on /r/hawkthorne

Changes include:

  • Autosaving games
  • In-game character & costume select
  • Hardcore mode now available from options menu
  • Added throwable torches to the blacksmith's shop
  • Add Joshua to the trampoline level (huge thanks to new contributor /u/Marbly)
  • Using the cheat to get the greendale key now also unhides the door to greendale
  • Fixes to Hilda's responses and commands
  • Fixes to blackjack betting
  • Fixed the flashing enemy bug
  • Halved the size of the download

Hi everyone. Hope you all enjoyed the start of Season 5 yesterday!

This release fixes the issues you were all having with loading saved games.

/u/edisonout may have britta'd it missing out two lines of code which meant your inventory wasn't loaded. As an apology, here's a list of cheat codes which may be used to restore your inventory.

  • hello rich people (500 coins)
  • use respect (gives weapons)
  • zombie (gives consumables - taco meat, watermelon & baggle)
  • this is more complex (gives materials)
  • i want tbd (gives lightning)
  • no no juice (gives potions)
  • chang level (unlocks all levels)
  • greendale is where i belong (greendale key - door will still be hidden until you reach the throne)
  • dan harmon (gives master key - again, greendale is still hidden)

We're also aware players can no longer select a character when playing a loaded game. This is part of an on-going process of re-doing the opening to match the episode. In the next major release, you will have the option of changing character and/or costume mid game. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can implement this or what you want it to look like, please comment below. If you can't wait until then, here's a crafty little way to change.

  1. save the game
  2. go to the folder C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\LOVE (replacing 'user' with your PC username) or the mac/linux equivalent
  3. find the file 'gamesaves-alpha-1.json' in the release subfolder (or beta or gamma depending on which gameslot you're using)
  4. replace "abed" with the name of the character you want to play as
  5. replace "base" with the name of the costume (this will be the name of the image, not the name that appears in the game - ask us if you have any problems)
  6. restart the game & load the selected slot
