After more than three years of hard work, the time has finally arrived. We're releasing v1.0 of Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne. Though we'll continue working on new features and improving current ones, the game is now complete. You play all the way through from Greendale right through to Castle Hawkthorne where you'll have to battle Cornelius Hawkthorne to win your inheritance.

Cornelius is not the only new boss in the game. Fight the dreadly Trouser Snake in Gay Island and Benzalk, the stone guardian of the Throne of Hawkthorne. If you're feeling adventurous, embark on a quest or two and square off against the mighty Acorn King or defend the Valley of Laziness from the hoard of invading aliens.

As always, the game is packed with other amazing updates including an abundance of new levels to explore, the ability to purchase armor from a variety of vendors, a recipe book to aid with potion brewing and the option to view quest details in your inventory.

There are far too many bug fixes to mention them all but collisions have been improved and joysticks have been implemented.

A special thanks goes out to a new contributor, @LoubiTek that found many of the bugs that were fixed in this release.

CHANGELOG

  • Menus like Hilda's can be scrolled simply by holding down a key
  • Airplane over Greendale no longer plays SFX if audio is muted
  • Dealer "Let's play poker" dialog can't be opened outside of the tavern now
  • Enemies bounce on bouncers now and spiders will crawl on their own webs
  • Many, many, many collision fixes
  • Dud potions will no longer crash the game
  • Item persistence in levels when they are dropped has been improved and is now more accurate
  • Native controller support!

Controller Support

This has been tested on Xbox and PlayStation controllers as well as a Retro SNES controller. Others may not work correctly. Please help report issues with controllers that don't work correctly. We don't support analog stick movement right now so you'll have to rely on your D-pad for movement controls.

This is one hefty bugfix release! Great effort by everyone this past week getting things completed and helping with code reviews. If we all keep up this pace, June 13th should make for one extremely exciting release of v1.0!

CHANGELOG

  • Added hole that can be dug in the forest just like episode for an easter egg
  • Many more collision fixes that resolve every problem that has been reported in the subreddit recently
  • Passive enemy noises for hippies in the hallway
  • Quest improvements
    • Player can abandon quests when picking up a new quest
    • Quests are now reloaded from save points
  • Added a test level for new developers to understand all of the components to build their own levels
  • Players can't cheat their way through Blackjack by spamming the "Deal" button before a loss
  • Poker kickers should work properly now
  • Changing characters while holding throwables or driving vehicles no longer results in weird behaviour
  • Passive penguin enemy added to Winter Wonderland level
  • Enemies are paused when inventory is opened to allow for players to make use of potions in battles
  • Heart tokens now have increased value to match enemy damage increases over time
  • Turkey boss no longer gobbles after they have died or between player respawns
  • Crafting items is now much more reliable and won't result in crashes
  • Improvements to how the Blacksmith building burns
  • Vent and English Memorial level refinements
  • Hallway level is now more dynamic with the amount of hippies that spawn

Probably many more bugfixes as well! Time to get hyped for v1.0 on June 13th!

With Communicon coming up this weekend,we thought we'd better give you a new release to go with it!

Changes

  • Collisions - we've changed how we draw and calculate blocks and collisions - this is a HUGE change that should stop people on slower computers falling through floors/corners/hurt by spikes that aren't touching you and it affects every single level in the game so please test thoroughly to check we haven't missed anything
  • Strip poker - run out of clothes while playing cards? Not a problem if you're playing as Jeff, Pierce, Troy, Abed or Chang - bet your clothes instead.
  • Updated in-game costume select - you'll now see a large image of the costume you've selected
  • NPC text outlined - making it easier to read
  • Sandpits - made the hidden entrance easier to find
  • New Weapon - ghost peppers - buy them from Juan in Taco Town
  • Updated intro & autosave warning screens - match the style of the episode/game
  • More savepoints in the sandpit levels. We know how much you hate those moving platforms!
  • New Costumes - sing it with me - "Naked Troy and naked Abed" - bringing the total number of costumes in the game to 350!!
  • Bug fixes
